Platz/ Klare Quartett
Spannende Live-Improvisationen bauen auf ausgesprochen harmonischen Themen auf; wilde Ausbrüche treffen auf fragile Ruhephasen; alternativer und stimmungsbetonter Jazz entsteht, der gewaltige Energie versprüht: Das Album »The Gathering« ist eine Momentaufnahme eines seit mehreren Jahren dauernden kreativen Prozesses, der sich immer wieder neu erfindet. Die CD konserviert zum ersten Mal die Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem amerikanischen Gitarristen Jeff Platz und dem deutschen Saxofonisten Jan Klare außerhalb der Konzertbühnen in den USA und Deutschland.
Die Partnerschaft der beiden Musiker, die auf der CD von dem Bassisten Alexander Morsey und dem Schlagzeuger Christian Schönefeldt begleitet werden, hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren rasant entwickelt. Jeff Platz ist als Musiker eine Triebkraft der Bostoner Alternativ Jazz- und Improv-Szene; gleichzeitig betreut er als A&R-Mann die alternativen Jazzprojekte des Labels Skycap aus Münster. Jan Klare wiederum ist ein in Münster ansässiger Musiker der u.a. die CD »Unplayable« mit der Band »1000« auf Skycap veröffentlicht hat – bei »1000« spielen renommierte Musiker wie der niederländische Bassist Wilbert de Joode und der amerikanische Drummer Michael Vatcher.
Über Skycap kam auch die transatlantische Kollaboration zwischen Klare und Platz zustande, die 2006, 2007 und 2008 gemeinsam Tourneen in den USA und in Deutschland spielten – zum Beispiel in Köln, Hamburg, Osnabrück, Münster, Boston, Portland und Providence. Dabei ging es auch in das Soundgarden Studio in Hamburg, wo die beiden bekannten Indie-Produzenten Tobias Levin und Chris von Rautenkranz die Songs für »The Gathering« aufnahmen, mischten und masterten.

On this album one can experience the results of the collaboration between American guitarist Jeff Platz and German saxophon player Jan Klare for the very first time, aside from live performances in Germany and the U.S. The liaison between the two musicians, joined for the recording sessions by Alexander Morsey on bass and drummer Christian Schönefeldt, has progressed greatly in recent years. Jeff Platz is one of the moving forces in Boston's jazz and improv music scene. He also is the A&R person for the German music label Skycap, based in Muenster, programming the label's contemporary jazz division. Jan Klare, based in Muenster/Germany, is a musician who, among other things, has released the album »Unplayable» with the band »1000» on Skycap. Members of »1000“ include renowned musicians such as the Dutch bassplayer Wilbert de Joode and the american drummer Michael Vatcher.
It was Skycap that also initiated this transcontinetal collaboration between Klare and Platz who then toured the U.S. and Germany together in 2006, 2007, and 2008, playing shows in Cologne, Hamburg, Osnabrueck, Muenster, Boston, Portland, and Providence, to name just a few. After this extensive tour both musicians went into the studio to record the material for »The Gathering» under the guidance of high profile sound engineers Tobias Levin und Chris von Rautenkranz in their Soundgarden Studio in Hamburg.
